You speak to me of soul mates and love
I talk of walls in heart defense survival
Things you say that you know too much of
Held within for so long, now a new revival

You extol mystery and painted veils
And I am always the last one to know
Telling each other all of sensuous tales
Yet always there is the dam to impede the flow

You give me voice to vent and words on wings
I only can send this, the smallest of gifts
Building the wall with a brick every day brings
Slave to the task of not thinking in what-ifs

You spend time in likewise endeavor
I, eternal long for the what could be
Hope, maybe not for now, and maybe never
To one day scale the wall between you and me

Some walls might be impenetrable.
A sensitive and thought provoking write about relationship barriers.

I've read this several times... and love it more with every reading. It's poignant and powerful... shaded with sadness but still resolute, never giving up.

Your work is always a treat to read... this one's going into my library! *S*

Wow, I love how you have worded this poem, straight from your heart, frustration and hope.  I especially love this:
"You extol mystery and painted veils
And I am always the last one to know"
