There have been clues but nobody wants to believe it, nobody wants to hear that they are going to be murdered. They are brought by the hundreds and told to disrobe for the showers. The worst of it over, the standing for hours. They are stripped of all hope, worn and humbled they go where they're led. All day in a rail-car they'll soon have a bed. Then it comes and those nearest the shower-heads crash and bleed out. They rush for the doorway some starting to shout. In the darkness the man does not know that he stands on his child. Death starts at the bottom, the bodies are piled. The fierce struggle is brief but continues as long as there's air. As they die they must murder not willing to share. As the doors are then opened the pile of bodies spill out. None survived none forgiven all sin and all doubt. In this pile were the sins of many the last of these sins purchased only a moment more life and in the end achieved nothing. Rick, the numerous anapestic feet speed up your piece in a way that enhances its chilling feel, giving dizzying speed to its dizzying theme. A good, insightful writ. Mark |

A piece of history that just makes me just so ashamed as a human being. A powerful rant indeed about something all too true. |

Odd that I ran across this today. I was just having a discussion with my best friend about a movie this reminds me of. Maybe it's called Gray Zone? Unsure. Anyway, powerful images here. Heather |

I just rented a movie, titled "Boy In The Stripped Pajamas," it was about the very same thing as your poem.... It was a great movie, it is new, I recommend everyone watch it.... |

"In the darkness the man does not know that he stands on his child." I'm thinking on this line, and I can't decide if this is hell, or a small mercy... (probably a mercy, since the man doesn't know...) But that's just the literal reading, too. A good line, there. It has certain implications that are not so comfortable, but thoughtful, nevertheless. |

You made my thoughts wander to that mass murder, which still meant individual coping with death in a horrible way. I stayed such a long time in silence here that the monitor went black and I jumped. May men evolve and awaken to love. Thank you for this. Love, Margherita |

Absolutely riveting. Thanks for not letting us forget that tragedy. |
