If all is preordained, If fate decreed all hate and misery, Then what will I have gained By coming here to suffer, And subjugate all life to my own will: Enslave the cows for butter, And kill the pigs for meat, Deplete the seas and raze the fertile plains And thus provide the beat To symphonies of drear Extinction and to speed the work of nature, Where all must live in fear. I’d sooner have been hurled Straight to the pits of everlasting fire Than placed in such a world. |

Yep, it all doesn't make sense does it? Also, if our time here on earth is predestined then........ Why is there seat belts in cars, trains and airplanes? Why can't we drive right down through the streets of the city at 100 miles an hour ignoring all traffic lights etc. and not worry about it? Why can't we eat two pounds of butter a day and not worry about it? Why do we go for a yearly physical check up? Why don't we jump out of an airplane without a parachute? Why are billions spent yearly on medical research if we don't have to worry about it? Why do law enforcement officers wear bullet proof vests? Why the billions spent yearly on safety in all walks of life? If everything is predestined then why worry about any of things? If it's not your time to go then jump off that cliff and give yourself a thrill, MAYBE you won't get hurt. Truth is, man is no puppet on strings that God is working. Man makes his/her own choices and the results are his/her own. Like your poem states, what the hell would be the purpose of living if that's all you were here for. Man can make changes for the better if he simply co-operates and trys to be unified. Excellent thought provoking poem Mark. Well presented and delivered. Eric |

Rick, thanks for reading. I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Eric, thanks for reading, and also for leaving such a delightful reply ![]() The tacit question is, since (or if) life isn't preordained, then why are we doing all this? Mark |

(Smile) I guess when you have to write it down in words then it's hard for it to be tacit. Great poem. Eric |
