There is something about the late hours
the cold hours here in the north
             when others have gone ashore
             or abandoned ship
when one is left with a raft
to drift to ride the swell or to be calm
             Shipmates should not apply
should stay safe on the dock
This is the journey of one
             to sail by the stars
             maybe a bright moon
             alone

There's something very romantic about a ship at sea, with no other map but the stars.

total loveliness here..

Oh, yes! I've been out on the ocean in a small sailboat, underneath the stars, away from city lights and noise. It is extraordinarily peaceful, as long as the weather is cooperative. (missing my Pacific today)

Hard to imagine anyone abandoning the ship
with you as Captain.

Good to read you, Kraw.

Drifting alone in the open sea would be liberating no doubt, if not frightening, but I can only imagine.
After the second line, this is 90% metaphor/allegory.
We each have our own sea . . . in the late hours.
Thanks for stopping by.
