Many years, I dreaded dreaming
So afraid I’d wake up screaming
Or quake, unable to make sound
To deter demons that came 'round

Hope was foreign concept to me
For what had been would always be
So daily, senses were assailed
With thoughts of ways that I had failed

Hating the day, fearing the night
Is an unenviable plight
I couldn’t seem to shake my past
Just dwelled in regret’s strangling grasp.

But then a hand reached out to me
Accepting my impurity
And lifted me to heights unknown
No more am I adrift, alone.

From all my fears, I found release
Discovered hope and learned of peace,
I dared to dream and reached for joy –
At last allowed esteem employ.

For showing me what love’s about
And freeing me from fears and doubt
I’m filled with humblest gratitude
Each breath I give my thanks for you.

This is such a wonderful song of healing, love and gratitude, dear Ruth.

Yes, there are those people who change our lives for the better and detach us from the grip that the past sometimes holds, giving us back the present.

Love,

I am of the firm belief that the more our hearts are filled with gratitude ~ the more things come into our lives to be grateful for!

May the blessings keep on pouring in! ~ and with you continuing to be thankful for them! ~ even for the teensy weensy little itsy bitsy ones! lol

Dear Lady friend, you are brimming with beauty and grace (and talent!) ~ within and without!

Love to you and a warm, loving hug,
Linda

It takes a special person to overcome fear and doubt and to recognize what they have and be grateful. It is clear you are that person.

Hi S,

This is a very good write and a great testament to one's faith.
Just a thought (for me) "esteem" in S5L4 would work better
if it possessed "employ". ie. "esteem's employ". Other than
that, I think this is perfect.

THIS is what makes poetry so special. It allows us to dig deep down and express feelings in a way that no other form of communication can touch.

Thanks for sharing this part of you, suthern gal, and you did it beautifully.

Just beautiful - I wish you would post it also in the Spiritual Forum, for those poets to enjoy?  Very poignant, and hopeful.

This is very well written and so inspiring, love every line, reflection of a soul

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

"Hating the day, fearing the night"

Y'reminded me of myself.

I even went searching for a poem where I'd said I cursed the sun for goin' down and cursed it went it rose again.

And nods about the nightmares too. I do try to look on the bright side though--I'm just glad I'm not Stephen King when that happens. Freakishly fretful!

Love ya muchly, lovely.
