At night, I like hearing distant dogs to bark.
They take away evils,
they protect the world which sleeps,
they kindly watch over us,
they are souls which speak to us,
dogs bark at night with so much anger,
that night goes away towards the sea.
I like the distant dogs which bark at night,
their confidence reassures me,
it tears the dark, the silence
and threatening ignorance of the world.

I never looked at it that way and it was definitely worth reading your perspective.  Enjoyed.

I do too, Yann.  I love your poem.  I have never thought of the barking as anger, though - to me it is dogs passing messages on from dog to dog, street to street, and hill to hill.

Thanks Yann,

The dogs here in the hood sing me to sleep.  They bark in unison.

yann,

Oh man, this is so wonderful.  My dogs think you are the MAN!  I think you are the poet who took my breath tonight.

At first I was a sckeptic, i'm not quite sure why but I was naive back then(about 20 seconds ago) Great work. I like the dogs barking at night too, except when they don't stop! ;P

Dear Yann, I had not been around obviously when you posted this the first time and I am glad I found it today. I love it, so well done.

I also love to know there are dogs watching over us ... but when they really bark insistently for a long time and seem to dialogue with each other, I think they might have sensed the arrival of an earthquake. When they stop I feel relief.

Great write.

Love,
Margherita

Sure Owl, i think there is no anger in dogs barking, I think you are right but I needed an emotion for the poem, I think dogs bark to afraid possible enemies, to scare...

Thanks for your  comment

Hi Bobby, me too don't like a barking dog in the next garden, the poem is dedicated to distant dogs, the others make me angry..

Hi Impact, thank you for your comment and considering how pleasant is the barking of distant dogs, almost smothered by the distance and the night, it seemed to me like a poetic memory.

Thank you marguerita, I feel relief too when they stop as you say to dialogue each others...I think that close dogs make me very nervous too because I can't sleep, I al lucky since 15 years, no dogs in the neighbourhood and the dog of my neighbour never barks...

hugs

I'm a dog lover to Yann and I really enjoyed your post. If every body had a dog

there would be a lot less burgalaries and that is a fact. Thanks Yann.

I enjoyed this because I enjoy hearing dogs barking in the distance at night. In the distance. lol Not right by my window.

This somehow reminds me of my hometown at night and hearing a dog barking, a train rumbling and maybe a tugboat blowing its horn, all in the distance...and all soothing somehow.

Thank you Guy, Your commment made me dream, That's right, at night distant noises (dogs, boats, trains) bring solace 'may be because we are in a warm bed and some are awake)...Thank you for the kind comment.

Yann,

perhaps you would also be interested in my kitten, who loves to attack my feet all night long...cats are strong protectors that can see dogs, you know? lol. On second thoughts, I'll keep my cat and listen to the dogs barking, got quite a few around here. Thanks for helping me appreciating it all.

I find it comforting as well, to hear a dog barking at night ~ in the distance, that is!

I also like to hear a train ~ in the distance.

~ and the pulley on the cord of a flag, clanging against the flag pole ~ in the distance.

~ and wind chimes tinkling ~ in the distance.

They are all music to my ears and soul ~ when they are from a distance! ~ otherwise, in the middle of the night, they are noisy nuisances that keep me awake! lol

I enjoyed your poem and the peaceful sounds ~ from a distance ~ that it conjured up in my mind!
