February 21, Every Year Today you emerged from hibernation and tapped my shoulder. Look, you said, I am swept under the heartbeat of your memory, sleeping; covered by hours, then by days, finally by years, until my laughter fades from memory and the sound of my voice is lost. I am only noticed when February cuts into your heart or in my picture one-sided and posed. You look for me across the mountain's top as if my ashes are what seed the ground. I can feel the pilgrimage of your feet upon my soul. You know by now that your heart beat is me and the ache in womb, the full blue-veined breast of remembering is where you can find me. I will always be there, trust your tears. ----------- Reposted in loving memory of Michelle http://www.angelfire.com/zine/bereaved/michelleopen.html |

Martie This sadness is never completely healed but you are dealing with it in such an open and loving manner. Your words in these verses help us feel your loss. We can never know the whole of the emptiness but are there in heart with you. But you have also taught us all maturity and resiliency, qualities that we all need to develop as life moves on. I wish you the best as you move on dear flower girl. I may not speak for everyone here but I imagine I reflect the thoughts of many. Eric |

Martie, the tears welled up in my eyes when I saw the title of the poem, even before I opened it, but when I started reading it, they really flowed. This is an especially beautiful poem, a real Martie-poem, a real Martie-Michelle-poem. I looked at Michelle's website last year in February, and again I opened it this year, but just couldn't cope with it. I have saved it on My Favourites to read again later, when I am feeling tougher and better able to stand your loss. Hugs and love Owl |

February 21, every year, you hit our heart with loving memories Marti. It is exactly how you described it so beautifully, we may loose the laughter or sound of voice, but they will always be found within ourself. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

Martie, What a beautiful daughter! She is the twin of her Mother. I, too, am sad when I read this poem - but I am happy also. I am happy that you had time with an incredible child who grew up to be the special woman in your heart. My family has their day - July 23, Every Year. Thank you for sharing this day with us and let us leave pieces of our thoughts for you. Alison |

Oh, dear Martie, this is poignant to an almost unbearable point of intensity. Only tears bring relief. You write in such a profound and poetically unique way and your eternal bond with Michelle enters everybody's heart. ((((Martie and Michelle)))) Love and hugs. Margherita |

This poem is ok Martie, but I still don't think it compares to "Coming Around Again" (October) which I still think is one of the best poems you ever wrote: kinda Sharon Olds meets Mary Oliver, and in my view just as good as either of them at their best. It's the only poem at PiP that ever brought tears to my eyes. |

Have I ever told you that I believe your inner strength matches the level of your beauty within? Well it does and that my dear rates a 10 on even the most challenging scales. Peace and love dear friend. |

Dear pip friends....I thought that maybe I wouldn't post this poem again this year because so many of you have read it and commented again and again and touched me often with your own words. But here I am, touched and touching. Thank you! |

“You know by now that your heart beat is me and the ache in womb, the full blue-veined breast of remembering is where you can find me. I will always be there, trust your tears.” Martie, this repost for your daughter Michelle, is so tender and touching. You are like a bird soaring; I find most of your poetry is like the wave of a feather. I don’t even know you that well but your sorrow touches deep. I am sorry for your lifetime loss that words can not express. Michelle is with you now and always. And Michelle will be waiting for you at end of your journey. Much love to you. |

My dear sweet friend, each time I read your poems about your Michelle, it touches my heart so deeply. There is nothing like a mother's love. Thank you for reposting it, Martie. Thanks for putting the link to the site. I have made a shortcut to it so I can go back to read again and again. This touched me deeply and you wrote it so beautifully. February 22 is my sad remembered day. Ten years since I lost my son. Love and sympathy. Joyce |
