. After Tet— I haven’t heard that In a long time Helmets Flak jackets And M-16s Nights lit up By muzzle blasts Pop up flares And tracer streaks Red and green Two bandoleers With twenty mags Incoming rounds Plastic body bags Hot dry heat And wet monsoon Letters from home Back in the world High school friends Who had no clue Occasionally An unlucky John . . . And it seemed Almost every day At least those days When it didn’t rain Cobras in the sky . |

yep ... that about covers it ... VERY effectively written! I'm glad some folks have the fortitude to comment on that time period (I won't) ... MUCH applause for this 'penning'! |

Yo John, You've done an excellent job in this poem. It must have been a painful write. Bobby |

Back in the world High school friends Who had no clue If I'd lived anywhere else, I might have been one of those clueless ones... but I lived near the town where scared boys tried to forget where they were going... and worked part time at the base that shipped so many out. I like to think your poem would have touched my heart regardless... as it was and is, I read your truth through tears. |
