A Lesson Learned in Life

In a world where people are just so cruel,
There is but one belief.
I am here, and I am me;
I am who I want to be.

“Here, do this.
It’ll make you like everybody.”
“But I don’t want to be
Like everybody else is.”
“If you’re not like everybody,
You’re no one, ya hear?”

But down in my heart,
I believe them,
I try hard to be like them,
But nothing avails me,
For I feel like there is something wrong.

“Come. Come with us.
We’ll make you feel accepted!”
“Thanks, but I’d prefer to be alone,
For people are so cruel.”
“If you’re not like everybody,
You’re no one, ya hear?”

But then I met a friend;
She showed me the true me.
She taught me that everyone is different;
That’s the way of life.
And not everyone is mean.

“Come. Come with me.
We’re different, you and I,
But that’s what makes this world
Such a beautiful place to be.
It is loathe to admit, though,
But sometimes the truth fades away from us all.”

We were friends all through elementary;
However, we fell apart in middle.
But now we’ve met again,
In the bright halls of Walton.
I’m happy again, I am.

And so I learned a beautiful truth,
And I saw through the black lies
Of society and its evils.
I’m me again, I’m me,
I’ve learned a valuable lesson of Life.

I like it allot. If you are interested in a critique I will do so. I think this is a lovely theme in this poem so I think with some minor tweaks it can be awesome!!! either way keep up the writing. (: I will be keeping an eye open for you.
