As you may remember, allan was recently banned for his offensive poetry and hateful words. Since that, a new name has come up in the dark poetry forums by the name of chester. Same poetry structure, same topics, just about same everything, still the same offensive manner. What do you guys think? |

Not wanting to open a can of worms or anything...but having seen this thread, I looked at the poems under Chester in Dark...s/he certainly expressed some strong political opinions, but even in the responses this seemed to be done respectfully and politely. I hope s/he won't be banned too easily for that. Apologies if I am entirely ignorant in some essential aspect of this issue, am only voicing an opinion based on what is visible to me at this moment in time. Liz, we don't ban people for expressing strong views. One of chester's threads in Dark had been active for three months, gone to three pages of responses, and been repeatedly edited by Moderators and Admins for profanity and name-calling. Frankly, had I seen that thread earlier, I suspect two or three people would have been sent strong reminders that personal attacks won't be tolerated and likely, had they continued in spite of the warnings, been banned. I didn't see it, though, and our Moderators and Admins kept the thread open as a venue for expression. However, while we don't ban people for their views, we do ban people who repeatedly refuse to follow our Guidelines. Such was the case with allan. And because we ban people, not user names, the posts made by allan under the guise of chester should never have existed. Every post made by allan/chester subsequent to his being banned, whether poem or comment, has been removed from the system. When unwelcome guests find a back door unlocked, we don't just close the door, we remove their presence utterly. While I certainly appreciate the diligence of those who brought this to light, I would also caution everyone that public accusations are a sword with two edges. My email address works most of the time, and while I don't respond to suspicions sans proof, I will read them and, if convinced there is merit, launch my own investigations. Diligence is appreciated, but sometimes, so too is discretion. |
