Hey Everyone! I know I am new to this place but I have been faced with a tough decision, and I need some help. I've had a really rough summer, been in a car accident, in the middle of a law suit, my job isnt working out.. you get the point. Anyways I am supposed to be going to University to take Journalism, however I havent really wanted to go since the first of summer cause I have been so stressed out and I don't feel like I can handle it right now. My boyfriend can't get his student loan, so he can't go back to school this year. A good solution for both of us would be to go to Alberta for a year to work, then come back and we'd have enough money to pay for school ourelves, and we'd also have our minds all clear from this terrible summer. See the hard part is, he won't go without me because we are really serious and he doesn't want to ruin what we have. Also my family is against it and don't really want me to go. I want to go.. I just feel guilty for hurting my family, especially my Mom. They want the best for me, and in their opinion it's school. What should I do?? I know I will go to school when I get back, I know I want to be someone. HELP!! |

I think that you'll probably do better in school if you're calm and focused. It's also your life, and your parents can't make you choose to do anything. That said, if you do decide to go to Alberta, try to be gentle with your family. I'm sure you will, because you show great love for them when you're worried about their concerns. ![]() (Disclaimer: I'm 16, and I don't know anything. As stated, only you can make this decision. Sometimes taking a break from school can help focus you, sometimes it only decreases your motivation. Have you discussed this all with your boyfriend? I think you definately should. |

Hey age doesnt matter.. thanks for the advice.. and I agree with you about being focused on school. I really dont want to waste all that money if I know I may do better if I wait. Also, yes I have talked it all over with my boyfriend. He really wants to go but he said if I decide to stay, he will too. I appreciate him thinking of me in this one, but I know this is the best move for him.. and dont want to hold him back. I think I'm almost 90% sure I'm going to take the chance, this is a great opportunity for me to see the country and make great money. Keep fingers crossed for me!! ![]() Thanks guys.. I appreciate it |

well we have made up our minds.. we're staying here. I am glad we're staying here, but not for the reasons we are staying. My bf's mom might have cancer, so we decided not to leave. So I will be going to school now. I still am pretty stressed out and I hope I can handle it. Please keep me in your thoughts as classes begin!! Thanks for the replies Ashley |

Uni can be a real stressor at first, but soon enough you will find it to be a real liberating experience, it is nothing like high school (just remember to avoid the campus pubs between classes, she says speaking from experience **blush**). And encourage your BF to get a head start, get a job and to take a course or two on a part-time basis, that way when he does get his loan next year he will have a cred or two under his belt. Maddy |
