That is only a part of what I'm feeling tonight. I don't know what kind of mood has taken hold, but I hope I'll get through it. Seems there isn't much excitement in anything. I don't need danger, just something to give my day an extra bump. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What's different about your life now? Are you working more? Not getting out? Not writing? All those can contribute to the way you feel. |

Well, I've recently started another job...got rehired, but my schedule is acceptable because I chose it, and am sticking to it. I'm not writing as much these days beyond mediocrity. I want to feel the Autumn wind on my face...to get back some of the zest I once had...climb a tree, take a romp in the woods. I feel enclosed in more ways than one. There are more walls it seems than the walls of this room or my house. I'm only 24, and the other day my husband told me that sometimes (most of the time) I act 40. I'm apprehensive about whether or not college is going to work out when I do (AND I AM) go back in January. I'm supposing I'm at the brink and feeling my youth is slipping away with nothing to show for it, but this feeling goes beyond even all of this simplicity. Does that make sense? Lonely..lonely..lonely...In more ways than one...I am missing the companionship of several things, thoughts, feelings, people, etc that use to enrich and fulfill my life. Geesh. I want to party, but I don't party anymore. Want to drink, but don't drink, anymore...never really did in the first place. At least not to an excess. I have a boring, dull, and level headed life. Sometimes I just need to LET GO!! Thats enough for now...Sorry for ranting, but its keeping throught the night anyways. |

Question - How does one act "40"?... I have a secret for you... Once you hit adulthood, there's no "age"... People are people - Young ones can act old, and old ones can act young... Just have fun where ever you fall on the spectrum, and don't concern yourself with the number of your years... ![]() |

lonely?? we're all lonely, i think, at various times in our lives... basically, even when we are surrounded by family and friends, we are alone with ourselves and it's ourselves we need to make peace with... you feel your youth slipping away and you're 24, you say... LOL... i'm sorry, jenn, but that's very very very funny... i mean, i don't mean to be making light of your honest and sincere feelings announced here... but.... let me tell you something, you are YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG... perhaps you are blessed EARLY with the wisdom that life is short because you can feel the days slipping away... and that, my friend, makes you one of the lucky ones... if you are feeling that, then you will be more likely to enjoy, discover, and treasure each moment. don't let the days, weeks, years, moments.... slip away without realizing their significance and filling your time with precious, special people and experiences. now... you feel 40???? omg, well then, maybe there's no hope after all... i mean, 40 is ancient, y'know? those 40ish people use canes and wheelchairs and go to bed at 8PM... geesh ![]() |

acting 40... lol... lol lol lol lol lol ol ol l l l rofl oh.... oh my.... ouch...!!! rofl... sorry Temptress -- it's just -- funny.... because -- well... actually -- I'd rather be 40 than 24..... you'll find out... but -- believe it or not -- one of the best things you can do right now is -- find something really boring to do... and do it... just do it... scrub your bathroom floor with a toothbrush -- pick out a leaf and study it ... draw it... go find an ant hill and watch it.... the more boring the better -- avoid anything remotely interesting -- if you read -- read something instructional -- a how to book -- (but not self help or motivational) -- or maybe read some hardware/software manuals like the ones Doreen loves so much... I'm still laughing at the 40 remark but... I'm dead serious about finding a boring activity... you'll see |

Hmmmmm....40....well, I got there 3 years ago and it changed my life....do I feel old, NOPE I do not, I feel younger more expressive, more honest than I have ever done...so what happened? I have no idea...Did I become somehow liberated? I don't know I just know I suddenly found myself mature and honest, sexy yet free from inhibitions....maybe I just found the time of my life....I don't know but I do know that age is not something that says anything...I laugh like a teenager, I'm more understanding, more giving and better yet, I'm able to give and understand why I don't always get anything back but it doesn't stop me giving.... Yep, I love being 43...I found my niche in life, I'm confidant as a woman, far more than when I was 18 and everything stayed where it was regardless of gravity...I'm compassionate and I'm confident in my ability to hold my own....yes, I hurt more now than I did when younger but that's only because I understand more... Take your view of life and garnish it, with your eyes, your perception and most of all...know that each day brings with it a lesson, sometimes wonderful, sometimes boring and sometimes it brings forth a smile that lets you know that tomorrow may never come but the day after can surely be magic.... I don't have any answers, I just know that I'm right now the best person I will ever be, that is, until I reach 50 cause then, maybe I'll be even better...LOL HUGS |

Thanks for the thoughts so far everyone, BUT! One thing. I said my HUSBAND told me I act 40, not that I think I act 40. That is just what he said which left me wondering if I'm too serious or something. I surely wasn't insulting the age or anything. ![]() |

Temptress~ quote: Hon, I'm sure you know that depression comes in small, lingering doses as well as intensive overwhelming mega-doses. First, I'd go to my doctor and get a thorough checkup. We all feel better when we know we're healthy and we need to know if we're not. That done, I'd 'climb a tree, take a romp in the woods' ! I'd laugh out loud in church ! I'd take a child somewhere they've never been ! I'd go to a retirement home and sing songs with them from the memories of their yesterdays ! ![]() I'd take my husband out on a date. ! I'd set three realistic goals as to where I wanted to be in three years ... and do what it takes to reach at least two of the goals. At twenty four ... accomplishments are on the horizon ... not in the history books ! ![]() 'Partying' is a state of mind ... not a place ! Now .... get out there and 'party' ! *Hugs and smiles* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

my problem is that I'm 41 and my husband is constantly accusing me of acting like I'm 23! (Just kidding!) embrace your youth, use the time to learn everything you can about your world. The experience will come in handy when you get older and realize that life BEGINS at 40! Oh, and always remind yourself when things get tough, "that this too shall pass". |

Temptress- Boy, can I relate to these feelings... been there too many times, but if there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that life is what you make of it. You can either sit back and wonder where the time went or you can take hold of it and take care of you. Do the things that will make you happy. Marge's suggestions are wonderful, and as she said...anything can be a party if you make it so. ![]() ((((((HUGS)))))), -vicky < !signature--> "...until you have read the verse on his heart, you have not truely met the poet." -vlraynes [This message has been edited by vlraynes (edited 10-12-2000).] |

Boy can I relate to your feelings. I sometimes can feel just blue too and heck age has nothing to do with it. I am 41 and people ask me when will I grow-up? NEVER I tell them..hehehehe.. I tend to find my blueness usually came in the fall too. Maybe it is the changing of the seasons just something in the air? Marge and viraynes had great suggestions. I find looking at what I can do and not what should I have done helps me out of the blues. So let me sprinkle some sunshine on you..Hope that helps. Take care |

Nothing can be more lonely than turning 50! But I have a lot of company (my entire high school graduation class for one) yes, we all feel it and we reach out, it's what keeps us going. Take care and get some rest! Kathleen |
