I think that rhyming poems are real good. They sound nice, but it seems like there's limits to the wording. Free-writing doesn't sound as... COOL as rhyme, but it gives the writer more freedom to express themselves. What do you think?

It's an age old discussion, the relative merits of free-writing and rhyme. I find that my preference depends very much on my mood at any one time, and also the mood evoked by the words. Even within free writing, I always strive to maintain a rhythm which has as much to do with the poem's meaning as the words themselves.
Whereas rhyme is technically more challenging, having to fit into more rules, I often find that it gives an unsuitable, child-like feeling to my work. It is very hard to work in rhyme and avoid slipping into a dum-de-dum rhythm. Frequent breaks in the poem help, and can make a balance, but on the whole, I'm a free writing person.
