Dear Thomas (Letter Three)

Dear Thomas,
The postman finally came and brought
the letter that you sent
and not one day to soon, my love,
as worry had me spent.
Oh, what relief it gave me
to hear from you today;
to know that you’re alive and well
and dear God, I nightly pray
that He will keep you safe from harm;
He’ll guide you home to me
so you will see your baby
and we’ll be a family.

Doc Spear says all is going well
for that, I’m very glad.
I swear he’s quite the fighter Tom,
perhaps just like his dad?
I feel his movements daily now.
He grows inside of me
and I can’t help but wonder how
he’ll look or if he’ll be
half the man his dad is;
if he’ll break the ladies hearts;
if he’ll grow to be important
or his world will fall apart
torn in two like mine has been
for each day, now, I find
that some of war’s worst casualties
are those, here, left behind.
I watch the news and can’t imagine
the horrors that you see.
We see the screened, the edited,
the safe for home TV
and still the images displayed
chill me to the bone.
I scarce can breath each time I hear
the ringing of the phone.

I want to hold you in my arms.
I want to kiss you face.
Our bed no longer holds your scent
for time’s erased each trace.
I wake some nights to call your name,
and think I've heard you screaming
and find myself confused and scared
then I realize I've been dreaming.
So tonight, before I go to sleep
I’ll send some prayers your way
that God will keep you safe to see
yet another day.
Thomas, how I miss you dear,
I send a kiss from me.
I love you more than words can say.
Signed me,
Your Anne Marie

Dear Thomas

Dear Thomas (Letter
Two)

Dear Anne Marie

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten,but I've loved another with all my heart and soul,and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

So you go and make it happen

Ruth?  Sometimes you have to write to
just one...
