Dear Thomas (Letter Two)

Dear Thomas,
Night has come again
and the hour it grows late
but I’ve some news I have to tell
that surely can not wait.
I can’t believe I was so blind
to all the little clues
the nausea, the tiredness
the crying and the blues.
I tried to chalk up everything
to missing you, you know
and I’ve been so busy with the farm
to notice that my flow
didn’t come last month at all
or the month that passed before
and again I tried to tell myself
it was due to the war.
I finally went to town today
to visit ole Doc Spear,
who said to tell you “hurry home
and be careful over there.”
And Thomas, he confirmed what I
suspected it to be
and gave me strict instructions
to promote my pregnancy.
Yes Thomas, dear, the news is true
though still hard to believe
that even as you waved goodbye
I’d already conceived.
I’m going to be a mom, my love,
and you will be a dad
and to think you won’t be home before
the birth, it makes me sad.
I’ve only just 6 months to go
and I hope this brings you joy
Doc Spears says everything’s all right
and we’re gonna have a boy.

Dear love, the night is still outside
and I’ve need to rest my head
but I had to share this news with you
before I went to bed.
I miss you darling, write me soon
I send a kiss from me
until I hear from you once more,
I Love you,
Anne Marie

Ah Ruth...letters like these
meant so much, not only to the husband
but to the wife as well, to walk back
through her day, putting him mentally,
spiritually by her side...

I know...

And I'm looking forward to following
this couple...

extremely heart wrenching....and yet, filled with promise...composed with a touch of class...and a smile, trying to understand the distance in-between...thorougly enjoyed.

I didn't know you were writing a whole series of these poems. What a great idea that is! I'll have to find them all.

Ruth maybe it may be good to link all the letters at the bottom of each new one, as this board moves too dang fast and it is sure hard to find them in order to read over and over.  Today I bought this beautiful antique journal (a small leather one) and I am printing them all and will put them into that when you are finished.  Sure would be nice if Tim would show up and take up his part, but you are doing his well   Goes to show you we don't need them do we?  LOL.
