Okay....since Thomas (aka Tim) appears to be MIA, I guess I'll have to duet with myself
Dear Anne Marie

Dear Anne Marie,
I finally got
the letters that you sent;
I must apologize, my dear,
for I had truly meant
to send a letter of my own
so many days ago
but we’ve been on the move so much
I really didn’t know
if you would get the letter
or if it, too, would be lost
like those men who fell beside me
who have more than paid the cost.
It’s hard to be away from you
and even harder still
to know your carrying our child
and perhaps I never will
hold his tiny hand in mine
or hear his little voice.
You do know I’d come home today
if I only had the choice?
You can’t believe how happy
that your latest news made me;
for I felt blessed when I found you
now baby will make three.

I’ve tucked your picture in my hat
and in the darkest hours
I take it out and think of how
you looked there midst those flowers
and if I try to concentrate
sometimes upon the breeze
I catch a whiff of your perfume.
It brings me to my knees.
I live now for those memories,
they help to ease the fear
of knowing not what happens next
or, even more, just where
we’ll lay our heads when day is done
or what tomorrow brings.
There’s rumors if we last our tour
we should be home by spring.

Please take care of yourself, my dear,
and take care of our son
and know that always you will be
my one and only one.
Write back soon
your letters how they mean the world to me.
Goodbye for now,
Thomas
P.S. I love you Anne Marie

Yes, yes, this is what Tim would have written, had he been able...and my God, my dear...

This is reminiscent of all wars...it crosses all time...

and I am sitting here, thinking of Sarah...

Thank you Ruth...
thank you for being such a rich and wonderful poet.

This is beautiful....I loved reading what a soldier might say in his letters home. (I don't know who Thomas/Tim is though.) very, very well done.

Well now, this is exactly what any soldier or person defending thier country would write home I suspect, and even one Tim who is MIA you did him proud.  As a matter of fact, had you entered this into Wranx's masquerade contest I could have actually figured one out finally   Beautiful rhyme Ruth, absolutely seamless.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all art and science.

Oh my, this tugs at the heart strings - so beautifully written -

Thank you everyone for your response to this series

Sky...Tim is another poet here on Passions. Mysteria challanged he and I to do a duet, or more accurately, a series of poems writing as husband and wife seperated by war. So far, Tim has yet to make his appearance, so for the time being, you'll have to put up with me writing both parts
