MYsteria has suggested that Tim and I write a series of letters as husband and wife following the man through war and hopefully home again...so, here's my first...

Dear Thomas,
It’s been two long months
since you went to war
and each day here seems just the same
as every day before.
And though it’s only been three months
since the day when we were wed;
it seems so lonely every night
without you in my bed.
The weather’s growing colder now,
the frost is in the air,
and not a second passes by
that I don’t wonder where
you are or if your safe and warm
protected from all harm
or wish that for a moment
I could hold you in my arms.
The farm is not the same, you know,
without your gentle touch.
And all the hands say, “Hurry back,
they miss you very much.”
The lowers forty’s flooded
and the upper it needs plowed
and we’ll harvest corn again next week
if weather it allows.
I have to go now. Please be safe
and hurry home to me.
I’m sending you a kiss and hug.
Love,
Your Anne Marie

How very touching!

You express the longing and the worrying very intensely.

Love, Margherita

Oh goodie!  I can not wait and promise to save them all.  Ruth, thank you SO much, what wonderful fun this will be until the war is over (if it is ever over that is.)  This was absolutely delightful.

I have a feeling I'll need a hankie or two before these letters are finished. Excellent
