Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

Aurora, Queen of the skies, cast her net upon the dark
She sang her haunting invitation to the swimming stars

Come dance with me, delicate children
Writhe in the strands of my beauty

Silken threads of color swayed in delicate flirtation
Bright sparks of light wrapped in tendrils of touch

Star flowers waltzed with innocent abandon
Captive to the Northern Light night

Come dance with me, delicate children
Writhe in the strands of my beauty

They danced.

That was truly wonderful watching the stars dance.

With a title like that, I was sure to be drawn it! ~ Not to mention that I love every poem of yours that I have ever read!

I too, have written poems on the Northern Lights. I grew up in northern Ontario, Canada and the aurora literally danced as you have so poetically penned!

I was but nine or ten when first
I saw such wonders in the sky.
I did not take the time to ask what or why.
My thoughts were that the sky was falling.
Little feet danced a fast cha cha,
as all I knew was  Home was calling.
With fear and pounding heart,
feet keeping time to that beat,
I made it in the door and
slammed it closed behind me.
Home, safe from all that came my way.

Thanks Midnightsun and Azzia, for the memories of that scary day.. martyjo

Never seen the northern lights before but I have now. You described a scene so beautiful, so serene . This has also got to be one of my favorite poems ever alongside Balladeers tribute.

I love your poem. I live in Western New York, I saw the Northern Lights when I was 15. I also lived in Northern Pa for 6 years and saw the Northern Lights once when I lived there. I wished I lived in an area where they happened more often.
