I could never begin to write like "Michael" but have found that he can always inspire me to try to write a little something             even if I don't always post it.  This is in response to his poem called, "Punching Out" and can be found here:

"Punching Out" by Michael

Feet scorched by this life’s pavement
On a path to earn our daily bread,
Minds overgrow in greed, and self-loathing,
Smothering our dreams in total dread.

Each day we all punch in and out
Just to prove we’re alive, and doing well,
While our spirit simply crumbles away
Getting us even closer to eternal hell.

There has to be more to this life
Than existing just for one’s own sake?
Buying fancy clothes, and fancy cars,
Spending every single dollar that we make?

Debt has become our squalid timekeeper
Tracking every second passed in glee.
We work and work to save our face,
Paying those bills stacked by you and me.

What has happened to the life’s balance?
It’s all work, and hardly any play.
Punching in and out every single day
To keep up with bills we need to pay.

When you punch in, give it some thought.
Hurricanes have shown we could live without.
Cut up those credit cards, try and downsize.
Live, love, laugh, that's what life’s about!

~*~

Even while we speak, envious time has passed: pluck the day,
putting as little trust as possible in tomorrow!
~* Horace *~

I punched out and did not punch back in, Sharon!  Did it about 3 years ago and have never regretted it.  Don't eat out much now and don't have a fancy car, but I would not trade one moment that I've had!  Much enjoyed your perspective!   ....jo

I punched out for good three months ago Sharon and I'm beginning to remember who I am. Inspiring poem. Thank you!

Ladies, I too punched out a long, long time ago and found how wonderful it felt to give rather than receive.  That goes for all things!

Thank you Martie, isn't it the truth?  Since those hurricanes I personally have just learned less is more, as it is only temporary.

Happy Valentine's Day to you and Taylor.
