I came to write a poem today
about standing tip toe upon a hill
but rather have been left

in wake

of thunderbolts and lightning

percussion of one soul
igniting my head
luminous

I came to do a challenge
and today I met one

I sit upon a cloud
right now

'tis the Irish way

and think of his beard

silver gossamer
bending breeze
plethoric

Oh, the Highwaymen would be proud

He was laid to rest today
and there are no storybooks
or prose
or tales to be told
of his life and his soul
and what he did to survive

nine lives too many

Only laughter and a smile
to dry any tear
or cause one

either way
you were blessed

I once wrote of death
and its bony fingers
wishing them
to be braided within my own

Today, I cast aside
that same hand
recoiling in terror

wondering just how many more lives

it takes

to toll

it takes

and takes

a toll

Oh, Sue....

this line alone
spoke well for the man.

Very, very well.

You have shared your loss
very well....

and I bend my head
in reverence at his passing.

Thank you.

Sue, I am growing to love your poetry more everytime I read it.  You have a way of expressing yourself that I feel comes truly from your soul.  What a beautiful poem this is; you pay him a great tribute.   ...jo

I came only to read, but my muse grabbed the keyboard for one last fling.

But I can and will repeat, dear littlewing...
this is a fantasticlly tender eulogy.

Sue
Very good poetry, as is usual from you....

"Oh, the Highwaymen would be proud"

Indeed, it seems so..

But perhaps Robert sends the same message as the "highwayman"

*" Look for me by moonlight;
                      Watch for me by moonlight;
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way!"

Perhaps from your  cloud-perch, some moonlit night, you will see him approach...I gather that spirits, like you make him out to be, never really pass from existence...and he will ride up to your door to speak...If he does, I don't think you will be afraid...

*"And still of a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
    A highwayman comes riding—
                      Riding—riding—
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door."

I really like the "highwayman" and also "I came to write"

Thanks guys, makes me feel so much better you can relate and like. I truly appreciate each of your responses, made me feel good.  Made me smile.

Ford?  The weirdest thing occurred and this was the other night, I saw all the constellations from the City, from my porch, was quite odd.  THAT never happens and then I read this:

Perhaps from your  cloud-perch, some moonlit night, you will see him approach

You never know and no, it was the most beautiful sight.

I just got to this and am glad I waited, because I just knew you would see "something" following this loss, and you did.

A beautiful tribute to what was obviously a wonderful man.

i know this is from like two months ago, but this is the first time i have been on in a while, so i had to go find some of your stuff sue, and as always you speak to my inner self, sometimes you can write what i can only dream, and espically these past two years my poetry was being held back...

"I once wrote of death
and its bony fingers
wishing them
to be braided within my own

Today, I cast aside
that same hand
recoiling in terror

wondering just how many more lives

it takes

to toll

it takes

and takes

a toll"

I am left speachless at this last stanza.

Amazing, absoutly amazing.
