 . . . Come sit beside me on the bench Let us visit for awhile It's good to see you well old chum Warms my heart to glimpse your smile. I've brought a basket full of goodies Oh, I see you've brought one too !! We'll have tea with lemon and a tart This picnic in the park's long overdue. Let's laugh about the days gone by Feed the squirrels a bit of lunch Take a stroll together arm in arm Pick wildflowers by the bunch. I'll make daisy chains for me and you We'll gleefully wear them in our hair Take a fantasy ride on the carousel Our flowing skirts rippling in the air. Let's watch the children on the swings Their voices squealing with delight Begging to go higher with each push Like any moment they might take flight. Come sit beside me on the bench Our special day has neared it's end I'm so grateful for our park of peace And I am blessed to call you "friend." . . . . Chris Barker ~2002~ |
