If I Didn't Know Better (I'd Swear I Was Doreen) ~*Marge Tindal*~ I swear if the last 34 hours NEVER repeats I'll be the happiest camper you'd ever meet Started out with a cautious move turned into a disaster of rising proportions Bird-condo cage moved down the steps with ease washed it out ... pretty as you please Birds all happy with the extra shower would blow their cover within the hour~ To load it in the car would take muscled-finesse I could do it myself NO STRESS Pull and tug ... tight fit it seems then the darned thing slipped from my grip tumbling over in rapid careen Door flew open ... birds in scatter Six flew over the Cuckoo's nest coming to rest in the tops of 40 ft. trees with ease~ Oh NO ! Come back ! Please cut me a little slack Flitter flatter Love Birds and others in scatter Out across the Swamp they went Lickety-split ... about in flit~ Me in cry (literally) of sad goodbyes My birds ... my birds whatever will I do ? I whistled and shouted and called them by name TrickyVicky and Poppie Dwight and Reba Come back here now Rainbow and Kiwi ! Cavorting the branches in short freedom flights I know I must have been a terrible sight In tears running around amuck perhaps they thought I was a freaking duck~ First one back to the yard is so precious to me My very own little TrickyVicky~ One long night, with not much hope in my mind that they'd return even if they knew how to~ Clever me ... I set up the cage and filled the food and water bins Propped the door open and waited for I could hear their songs again On the earliest morning sun there I was, again on the run Looking and searching with all my might Just where does a bird go into the night ? Poppie was next to spy me out in the yard She plopped down beside me the freedom too hard~ She sighed with relief as I placed her in a cage that was waiting for my feathered friend~ A bird in the hand is worth two in the tree So I commanded ... get down here to me ! And in flew Rainbow as if she just 'knew' that Marge was-In-Charge of this bounty hunter deed I placed her inside with the water and seed~ Digging up plants so I'd be near Just in case the others were waiting to hear the dinner bell (well, who can tell ?) It worked as two more flew home~ Into that open cage door they glided so free And started to eat with the greatest of glee~ Yep, by golly Kiwi and Dwight came home That only left Reba still on the roam Dwight was sure his mate was near so he sang his heart out so she could hear~ The sun in set hasn't brought her home yet but, with thoughts from friend, June and sweet MartieSis too It's amazing what a little prayer can do~ I'm hoping perhaps on early sunrise I'll find Reba waiting with hungry eyes~ And June did the neatest thing she sent GOD an e-mail (she did too !) Who'd have thought such a thing ? OMG (no pun intended), Marge, It took me 10 minutes to read this!!!! you've out done yourself here. I absolutely loved it!!!! I could see that you have been working on this one for a while. All I have to say is WOW!!!! I have to stop laughing now... I love your wit. gonna have to save this one for further library visits. Margie girl darling sister of my heart, Oh my sweet Lord, this was utterly utterly wonderful, not the loss of Reba, but the way you painted the whole picture with such ease. I swear I could feel the frustration, the worry, the delight, I could see the birds each one of them flying off then returning. Absolutely fantastic writing as always you have written the whole episode in perfect detail. I hope Reba returns very very soon, and the Email was perfect, such a wonderful thought from June for you. *Thanks to each of you for enjoying the angst of me ~ This was an adventure I DON'T want to repeat~ As of morning light, Reba hasn't chosen to return to the cage ... but, she is hovering close by ... so maybe she'll come home yet~ If you all don't see me for a few days, don't be surprised ... I'm still moving and will now transport the birdies to their new home ... yesterday's episode set me back a day or two. Melton and Enchantress, thanks bunches~ Dor-who ?~ LOL ... 'psssstttttttt...... i know i tend to ramble, but i don't normally write pomes with email footers in them.... *wink' You will ... you will ! Admit it ... you just hadn't thought of it yet~ Oh ... and the CREDIT CARDS are MAXED !  Yeah ... it had to have that title ... it just HAD to ! All I could think as I was penning this adventurous episode was DOREEN !!!! I think maybe my next bird may have to sport that name ... Oh, gal... from tears of laughter at your day going to pieces to heart tears at your loss and June's wonderful email... back to tears of laughter at maxed credit cards... you trying to sog my shoulders? LOL I loved this... such vivid descriptions had the reader pushing the cage and searching for birds right along with you. *S* I hope so much Reba has returned to your love and care... if not, I hope she flutters her little feathers into someone else's life and heart. *S* Now... would you like some doves? *G* The one nesting on my balcony is oblivious to the fact that her fat butt is squashing my flowers... and I guess I'm supposed to protect her and her offspring from my cats? LOL I KNOW I didn't put out a welcome mat or hang a "Dove Maternity Ward" sign! LOL |
