=================================================== Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation 'Life is beautiful.' If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and delete it immediately . If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner.' PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY |

This warning is being passed around as a warning but its just a hoax. The "Life is beautiful" power point presentation is not a virus its just what it is. Whenever you get these warning emails always goto the virus software sites to see what they are saying.... ie.. http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2002-011511-0444-99&tabid=2 or http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/life.asp or at Mcfee... http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=99307 The real purpose of these warning is to just propagate an email chain letter for no reason, and so it gets sent around with everyone panicing for no reason and just clogging up the internet main bandwidth. Its simple to do a search on these warning in google and you will see all the sites with the correct info. So stop the maddness and don't forward this warning on.... |

hoax or not, Ron is right do not open any file at all, the threats are too great in these days I got a virus once and it took me forever to get rid of it, and had me pulling my hair out by the roots and with the MySpace thing now, that's a trap too I'd rather be falsely warned than be checking information everywhere to see if I'm the victim of a hoax |

passing your absolutely right you shouldn't open attachments that run on your computer. You should also ignore the forward part because that also creates a problem with junk email. The true purpose behind the hoax was to put fear into users and cause them to send unnecessary alarms out. Just another form of the chain letter. That one hoax and variations of it has caused millions upon millions of junk mail to end up across the web and that was its purpose. |

Parker, junk mail will always be an issue. I just opened a new mail account and already I'm getting a great many ads for gaining 3 inches and for Viagra etc...now why I need all that, I have no clue, because I'm female and it really chaps my butt to get my bulk folder filling up with these useless ads. And the more you unsubscribe, the more mail you get. Someone said that the postal service would be charging for emails which I would gladly pay if it would ward off most of the people who send out those ridiculous ads. I understand what you're saying and I agree. And even though I don't usually forward emails on, I do appreciate getting one of warning whether it's a hoax or not...it doesn't really put fear into me but I could see how it would create a panic for some. Really I do wish there was something we could all do about the junk mail. But I think it's a losing battle regardless of what we do. |
