Anybody got kids? Owlbert The Owlycat Now Owlbert was a mongrel owl, If you're of mind, imagine that. He'd hoot for mom and then he'd howl, Cause Owlbert was an owlycat. He was a silly looking bird, Well, not a bird to be exact. His mother was of great horned herd, His daddy was a puddy - tat. The other owls would laugh and scoff, He'd try to fly, to no avail. Just flap his wings and not take off, Because of his long bushy tail. The other owls caught fat mice meals And juicy insects on the wing. Poor Owlbert hopped around the fields Just catching wiggly worms and things. One day a baby owl's bleak wail Came from a deep dark rabbit hole, But Owlbert, using his long tail, Soon saved the fledge. A great hero. So, if sometimes life seems unfair, You want to just give up and fail. As long as you can love and care, Remember Owlbert's silly tale. turtle |

That's what happens when The Owl and the Pussycat go to sea in a beautiful pea green boat. Along comes Owlbert The Owlycat a mongrel offspring of sorts. Cute stuff. Edward Lear has nuttin on you ol boy. Well done. Should play a major part in your children's book of poems. Cause those things are needed you know. Eric |

I like Owlbert, the Owlycat (sounds a lot like Ali-cat - one of my nicknames). There are (sheese, it is sad to have to come back to correct my grammar. I don't type the same way here. It's sad what comes off my fingertips!) real lessons to learn from those who are "different". Liking this one, Turtle. A [This message has been edited by Alison (03-08-2009 10:38 PM).] |

Ida - Thank you Angel - Thanks sweety Eric - Thanks Eric....I guess this poem could be the result of Edward Lear's poem....heh Ali-cat - Yep, simple lessons for adults, but always loved by kids. Margherita - Thanks Marg, glad you liked ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Over a rainy spell, some years ago, an old girlfriend's kids were complaining about being bored. In order to entertain them I sat down and wrote several silly little poems. (This being one) After reading, the girlfriend pointed out the similarity between this poem and Edward Lear's "The Owl And The Pussycat". Always searching for something witty to say, I simply agreed and pointed out, Clearly Owlbert is the result of spending too much idle time in confined spaces. ........(Pointing at the kids)...heh Turtle |

Oh, turtle, I absolutely adore Owlbert, this precious, darling, lovable relation of mine. But I think it is cruel and decidedly untruthful of you to call his tale a silly one. I think you are just jealous of Owlbert! Smiles! Owl |
