You've been a son sense the day you were born, You've been a man sense they shipped you off to war, You've been a father sense your first child's birth, You've been a husband sense you said "I Do". Each one of these changed you, Adding on to the old, Changing you making you new, A growing understanding and somethings left untold, But now the last one is gone and you feel lost, Drifting and unsure, Or what you're suppost to do, Now that part of you is gone. But the truth is rather simple, Even though the heart is torn, And when the clouds clear from your heart, I hope you understand, That part of you she added, Didn't leave with her death. Know yourself before you try to know someone else. |
