My arms became tired and my fingers were sore It snowed last night and the wood pile had to be moved I threw each piece with precision against the wall The resounding thumping noise made me smile Green leaves showed defiance towards the impending cold They waved to me as the more tired drifted to the ground Winters no longer on its way.Winter’s here It whispered in last night and dusted my car with white I lit my woodstove to take the chill off And wondered why I had not put the lawn furniture away The cats were lying in front of the flickering fire They nestled in for the long dark months of eating and sleeping I told them they do that in the summer too, but they only sneered What do I know, they asked – I was out tossing wood And they were basking in the warmth of my efforts. I knew they were thinking while I was up, I may as well feed them. aziza |
