And the air is safe again! Breathe, children, breathe before the black menoxide creeps back in before hands grow too slippery to Slide and feet tremble so Before what was becomes what is and the green trees die again. No need for safety straps today. Just look at little Bethany, flying through the air and not a swing beneath her! Curls of fairy floss firmly embedded in knotted tresses of auburn and laughter left four feet behind every wind stretched smile. And little Jimmy Jones well the suspenders say it all as he spins... and spins... notice how his feet never touch the ground? Wind blurs the edges of just-washed hair and unwashed hands and smiles become circular. and Look at all the children playing with sand between their toes There are no tears in this sand box, because Today Every castle survives and their little flags wink in the breeze. The Sun sets, and friendly trees have evil brothers, whose dark and quivering shadow arms reach out to Grab You! Gentle breeze becomes Howling Wind Friendly sand stings eyes and ears and mouth and nose and no one claps their hands this time. Just look at all those men, with their watching eyes and wanting hands lurking in the shadows, waiting till the dark declares the playground theirs Again. |

I found your choice of names for your playground children intriguing-- Bethany--house of bread? Jimmy Jones? --too much has been said about him already, but not if you ask him ![]() clever, I thought, and every bit as captivating as the real deal and you left me longing for lost innocence well done ![]() |

Martie: the point of poetry is to make someone feel is it not? I'm so glad I've done that this time. Thanks so much for reading and responding ~cheye xx |
