In answer to the question that you never deigned to take to task: I do not think you ask too much I don't believe you ever asked but stood there like an orphanage illuminated by the tact of coppering gone verdigris and twinings of the walk-me plant nestling the shift of slate in burial of fact-- purslane blooming in the sun as mold impressed the colonnade velveteen the fingerings of every stop someone had cast leaning on the post... a child in noisy crinoline and wrinkles in her leggings, grin offering the lemonade for six cents a cup and that was strained to order without pulp in answer to the question that you never thought to ask. |

Just *hugs* Ser....makes me so sad...but your mind's eye and magical pen show me things I never got the chance to see and I thank you for that..... But, I think I know what this one is about....and it is not the landscape, but perhaps, the environment......*wink*...jojo |

I love your writing. With this...I love the sound of it all in my head. I love the feel of it. I just wish I was smart enough to understand it. The straining and filtering is very familiar. LOL I would be honored to be added among your friends...if you would have me. or...wherever you find a suitable place for me to fit...mascot...scarecrow...punching bag... I dont care. :: bows :: |

Serenity Blaze, "In answer to the question" I'm not sure what this is really all about, but that line grabbed me. I'm really into questions! Questions are good. Would we have ever learned to speak if we hadn't questioned what someone wanted and the words they could use to best reach their goals? We stole those words from someone who modeled them, then used them to create our own thoughts. I guess where I'm going with this is the art of communication. One grows from questioning. (Now, just wouldn't ya know a teacher would get on her soapbox and tell ya everything ya already know?) This year especially, I have found my own art has improved just by asking my students better questions involving their opinions, actually taking a couple of minutes to process and reflect upon their comments, and THEN, thinking about how to apply it on a higher level of Bloom's Taxomony, such as Synthesis and Application. Creativity of thought still exists when I add my own ideas to students' and I end up creating a broader spectrum of colors than before. All that for finally opening my mind that a ten year old might discover something that I haven't. (This year has been a humbling experience! I have learned more from elementary aged students by listening to their answers of my questions than umpteen years of college (not to imply the colleges didn't teach well, but I have about 700 teachers now from whom I can learn instead of a few professors.) Questioning and Observation are the meat of Scientific Investigation and ART. I think that's why I like Science so much! Hey, what's this about an onlies friend? Sounds like it's time to "Bath Away the Day!" Remember that poem??? You were so kind to Sadelite, asking her questions that would enrich her description. Oh, I have babbled on so and probably didn't even respond to theme here, but it's my own interpretation. That's ok, isn't it? If I flunked out...well, just call me a flunkie. I'm fine with it. BEAUTIFUL! Misc? Your explanation is lovely, and that's the key to my entire parenting. I just get quiet and let THEM talk. and thank you, too, for bein' a friend. One of these days, I am gonna have a great big ole Japanese bath party! |

What a coincidence! On Thursday, our school had three guest artists teaching about Japanese culture! Our school is trying to increase the awareness of other cultures and what we can learn from each other. You see, our children are rural, and many haven't had the enrichment of learning from others outside a fifty mile radius. It was a fabulous day. You should have seen the sparkle in my student's eyes to think about something in a different way. I do have a book about customs, but opted not to indulge them in pictures of the bathing customs, although I understand it to be a very natural and beautiful experience! I just bet there's going to be curious kid who'll read about it on his own now that he's found there's another universe outside our little town! He'll probably think he hit the Jackpot like having a Hustler magazine, (although you and I know it's not the same thing at all!) I can just see that kid bringing in the pictures now. Don't think my youngsters are quite ready for that... but a Japanese bathing experience outdoors with spring water does sound somewhat refreshing! Take care. miscellanea |

One of the ways to measure the 'success' of a poem, is by the replies that it engenders. I would say that by the responses that you have received, your poem has met with great success! ~ as have you personally! You caught me with the title... kept me with images so vivid I could feel the hot slate through my shoes and smell the lemons... and left me wondering just how much we don't see because it's easier not to... Fantastic write! |
