The lake was cold in preparation for winter freeze Fall air painted my cheeks rosy with a chilly touch And the leaves rattled their secrets on skeletal trees As the swans glided by displaying sheer perfection Rainbow fish sliced the water in a taunting dance Graceful as they beckoned me to come eat with them Their vibrant colors shimmered and glowed on sleek bodies Just before they dove back to their hidden homes The fire sparked glowing fireflies into black clouds And a young bear barked for its mother’s attention The Loons laughed crazily, and haunted my dreams Then quiet descended to wrap around a silent world Night fell like a wooly blanket and covered me with comfort Cradled close in the arms of the Northern Lights. Until I woke to the sun raucously shouting my name Demanding my attention to all that surrounded me Early morning daylight caressed the mountain on the horizon It posed in its splendor, primping in all her finery Draped in a lollipop pink and bridal white fancy dress Assured that I would marvel in awe of her beauty She was right. aziza |
