Sometimes I close my eyes and return to another place in time As memory-filled pictures create a slide show my mind I can see the grass dancing and bowing in the breeze I can see the horses seeking shade in the shadow of the trees I can smell the fragrance of the alder patch after the summer rains I am the one among the raspberries, lips and fingers berry-stained. It seems like only yesterday when I felt hot dirt under my bare feet I just have to close my eyes to find a bit of peace in my retreat The puddles wait for sticks and children to make rivers in the mud Flowers bloom just for me to take my Mom a delicate bud The hills reach out and hold me close as I roll down the grassy banks If I close my eyes, I see it all and for these memories I give thanks. It is in times of stress and sadness that I look back into my past I always find the answer that all of my adult anxiety will not last Because down the road and up the bend, in the meadow is where I’ll be It might be hard to find me as I am at the top of the highest tree But, I’ll be there and hanging on as I feel the sun upon my face And I will know that no matter where I go, I never lost my sense of place When I close my eyes and look back in time I know that I am home I take with me this history, no matter how far from my past I roam. The grasses bow in delicacy, the breeze gently caresses my face The trees hold me close in their arms; the hills help me run my race aziza |
