Oh love why art thou in hiding? For thy heart searched and longed, and yet thy fruits yielded nothing, but love's own actions wronged. I searched for thee in unforgiving sea, submitting thy heart, I threw it away, and yet the waves yielded nothing to me; (but the warming kiss of a loveless day.) I searched the day and nightly sky, looking for the brightest star; yet love was neither far or nigh, for such a love shown all too far. Walking amidst autumn's veil, I searched her colors and her eyes, but thy search ended to no prevail, for love must pride herself in disguise. Mountains and streams I did explore, and explore I did for nothing found, but a loveless heart with none to adore, trampled upon thy hallowed ground. Night again I searched on whim, hoping love would meet me there, yet come it not, night ceased to dim, and morn' found itself in thy tear. Proudless and loveless I did depart, in search for love in so wrong-a-place; for such a search, wronged thy heart- I should have searched thy loving face! |
