in the shadows

Do you lie awake on these nights,
you know well these nights,
the ones that take your sleep
as if it was alms
you'd forgotten you had pledged
to give the poor,
dark nights
with cold sweat
when your bed clothes don't fit,
and shedding those,
you find
it is your skin that doesn't yield to sleep?

Do you lie awake remembering
those long gone nights with winter hovering
and the feeling of my body
inside your soul,
how we chased away your tears,
how we saved the last desperate hold
you had upon your mind,
now all these years gone by
do you find you cry within the yearning
lingering inside the empty arms that hold no warmth
that find no comfort in the night?

no, but I do wake up early when I'm off of work, and want to sleep in when it's time to get up for work.

Seriously, this was throught provoking, you've taken an event in most of our lives, at one time or another, and made it well worth contemplation.

thank you and Happy New Year

icebox

I used to spend nights awake....now, I have found my dreams, not always good, but sleeping with me.

Warm memories are very good, indeed.

I did enjoy this work--especially the lines:

Do you lie awake remembering
those long gone nights with winter hovering
and the feeling of my body
inside your soul...?

You made a frustrating experience (to which I can relate) truly poetic.

Oh my, I like the way you turn this one around.  It's usually you who is feeling the emptiness-I like the way we wonder if she feels it too.  Excellent.
