Are Those Celluloid ‘Ghosts’ Really ME?!

       There were too many dreams,
       far too many dreams....
       yet, how I loathe ‘reality’!
for I am not the man I planned,
       nor will ever be.

       but “Godfre B. Daniels”....
play that ol’ time peeeano, Sammy,
       “Play it again, Sam!”
for I’ve got the Bogie-gart blues!

       but, the song...the song...
       what can be wrong?!...
       all the ‘magic’ is gone
       and who’s taken Gene Kelley’s
       shoes?!
       even the wizard is lost
       poor Dorothy is dead
       and the ‘King’ doesn’t
         sing anymore!

Is it time, time....TIME, you say?!
Time that breaks; and time that takes...
Ah yes!....that old man of men
       has done it again...he ‘waits’
       waits....WAITS....for no man, Sam
so play it again...if you can?!

      ........"So long, sweetheart!".......

...

When I was young
and wondered at the
idols of my parents
who had passed on,
I wondered what it would
feel like, to know that
this actor, or that actress
around my age,
epitomized in film,
to be forever young.

Sadly, I now know
that those who sang and danced
for me and mine,
are older, some better, some
wiser, some...gone...

and as their teachers, heroes
and idols of film before them,
will always be remembered
in very special ways.

Thank you for the read
of Culluloid Ghosts.
