"Eros and Aphrodite" Eros: “Open your heart, you can’t protest I’ll pluck that amorous flower, Just as this bow bends to my request; Embattling the virgin’s bower.” Aphrodite: “Oh, yield to me your countenance; For my eyes in silent praise. Surrender for the moment, I’ve sought for countless days.” Eros: “Lust is only fleeting, only momentary delight, It stings and aches, it promises much, Like crystals of snow, so perfect and white; Warmed just a little, it melts with your touch.” Aphrodite: "Love is but the mingling of sensation and desire, A mind’s creation, to render Lust tame, Better to hasten the release, than stoke the fire; Desire is Love’s only true flame." Eros: “Love’s pleasures should not be hurried; But enticed by lingering delays.” Aphrodite: “Oh, let’s hasten to the goal together, And receive the fullness of its pleasure!” |

I like the contrasts here. My only crit is that it slowed the flow for me to read the name of the god each time. Maybe you could do like Eros in blue and Aphrodite in red, and then let the poem flow. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
