She rode upon a donkey
Weary, swollen with child
They'd traveled through the night
To have their taxes filed

They sought refuge from the cold
And the biting wind and snow
But there was no room in the Inn
They had nowhere else to go

Joseph was beside himself
For Mary's time had come
And the long way they had traveled
Had become too burdensome

They stumbled upon a stable
Filled with animals and hay
Joseph made a bed for her
And that's where Mary lay

And in that lowly setting
Through the night and early morn
In fulfillment of the scriptures
The Christ Child soon was born

And the angels came down from Heaven
Spreading good news from glen to glen
"For unto us is born our Savior
Peace on earth, good will to men."
