Some need to be needed in ways undefined
and others just need what they want.
Still others just take and control what they "think"
finding out that their past is their haunt.

There are those of adults who are really still children
who play on the grounds of their life.
A conscience without, aboard not above
painting layers with a dull palette knife.

Coloring truth that can satisfy none,
voyeurs thinking what a grand theme.
But behind all the secrets there lies more the lie
rising up a disquieting dream.

Beware, unawared, that the truth that you hold
to be dear is not really what seams,
as the threads become bared and it all falls apart
covet your own self-esteem.

A lot to think about in this interesting ‘write’!

Some 'observations':

Amid the ‘Runaway American Dream’ of plastic, disposable, thread-bare (alleged) “truths” and ever-increasing,
deeply wounded and love-scarred spirits,  self-esteem is a rare and precious commodity to be assiduously built and deeply guarded and cherished!  There is, however, a profound difference between ‘needs’ as opposed to ‘wants’......with too many
folks their wants are many; but, their true needs are actually few. Lastly, the defining characteristic of this society has (sadly) become  ‘B.S.’!  (in ‘love’ or any other arena of human existence) An effective ‘liar’  at least has recognition of, and respect for, the plain truth in order to perfect his lie.  A  ‘B.S.’-artist, on the other hand, crafts his ‘line’ to achieve his immediate Machiavellian ends...and, he could care less whether what is said is partial or full truth or entirely fictious....as long as his selfish intentions are achieved!

As in all arenas of life, in cyberspace we meet those who are what they seem, and sometimes those who are not, and can get hurt when we place our trust in the fantasy.
But it's good to know, that most do not come into our lives with 'evil' intent.
A good write, Lady Maureen.

this makes me ponder whether or not we can really truly know and/or understand anyone's truth or reality

I've been wrong a few times myself and have realized that my place in life is not that of a judge.

brief 'appendum' to my previous 'comment' post:

I am most happy to see that serious and fine poets of this 'circle of friends'
at "P.I.P" give Maureen's 'important' writes the serious attention that she and they deserve!

"covet your own self-esteem"
Truer words were never written, Maureen

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

secondhanddreampoet...you flatter me

and of course anyone can read whatever they want into this whether it be cyberspace or in real or from one to the other...either way the point is to not believe everything you have been told or even think you know for a mask is worn by many...just remember to hold onto your self esteem for when it all comes down..that can be controlled by oneself.

"this makes me ponder whether or not we can really truly know and/or understand anyone's truth or reality" makes me wonder the same Dixie. But it isn't judging, when someone takes advantage of you whether for material or emotional or physical needs. You aren't judging when you can walk away...you are protecting  yourself.

"covet your own self-esteem" I woke up feeling surprisingly free and almost weightless this morning when those words entered my mind so very early. Thank you "I".
