we were long legged strangers there
outside of nowhere special
with small talk running around us
like blind dogs in the heat
looking for fire plugs to water

your perfume was in casual conflict
with the dark one from habana
but you said he was sexy in black
and the way he just seemed to fit
into the evening edged sky

made you think of other things too
and how they might fit together
but you smiled then, changing the subject
lest it be too obvious how
you had read my mind hours ago

when you were a different woman
forgetting about the things you enjoy
just long enough to miss them more
and wish you had one or two around
to help page you through the hours

for a night time of life times
