In Nature Behold the russet evening sky Below, the jagged black of land I sit among this, way up high And run my fingers through the sand Of time and place and countless ages Of men born free to men in cages Of fire and ice and meteor showers To hills and valleys and cities and flowers I sit on this hilltop, still and mute Behold the quiet hush of night I watch the owl, confident and astute And hear music as he leaps to flight Yet still I know this peace will fade And time will draw me from the glade To cities and people and Escalades And that role called life that we have to play For now, though, I think I’ll linger here My cage for now empty, cold and dark And when at last I must disappear I’ll carry with me nature’s glorious mark Grey Matter Custom Images |
