If I could just touch your ankle, he whispers, there on the outside, above the bone ~Rita Dove what if I’d said no don’t touch there or there either ‘cause it’s most too hard to shake that feelin’ of rime that forms at the edges that icy who are you feelin’ makes questions spark fires the mind with hot what if I’d said no don’t touch there it burns leaves tiny red marks on the brown I ain’t fixin’ to let you mark me done that before never did turn out right what if I’d said no don’t touch there it hurts have mercy with god’s own glory I swear it hurts not now no but someday it hurts I can feel it [This message has been edited by The Lady (12-05-2006 11:51 PM).] |

I liked this very much. Have you ever heard of Merrit Malloy? She was a favorite poet of mine in the 70's. This reminds me of her writing. Very powerful and emotional. Sandra |

I like that you put the quote there. Very good writing. Most won't beleive me but I really wish I could write stuff like this. Cheers - Ed And I said to the devil, "You better leave my spleen alone." |

I love what ifs, so you can see how this title grabbed me. Without what ifs, would Edison have ever...???? Like Edison and in his developing of the light bulb, how many failures and risks before great success? Love, too, can be full of risks I suppose, but probably a lot more fun and heart wrenching! Enjoyed your poetry, misc |

Kate, Now you've gone and congered up a lovely memory. The first time, ever, I touched my wife we sat at a dining table visiting with a mutual friend. She had her foot on the rung of my chair and I dropped my hand and held her ankle. It burned us both without regret. Lovely write. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, |

thank you misc I think love is probably a lot more fun than developing a light bulb but failure in either can be so frustrating oh Larry what a lovely story thank you for sharing your burn without regret |
