Don’t wish me “Merry Christmas” yet!
Such rush is something I don’t get –
It won’t be here till late December
And take a look – it’s still November!
A cold front’s promised for tonight
But it’s hot now – It’s just not right
To talk of jingle bells and sleighs
And be counting shopping days!
I hate to humbug and be Scrooge
But is there anywhere refuge
From sales and trim and trees galore
In front of every grocery store?
How wonderful might be this season
If we took to heart its reason
If we recalled the Prince of Peace
Could some of this world’s conflicts cease?
If that could only be so
I’d need no Christmas lights to glow
For every day, throughout the year
I’d gladly wish to all good cheer!
But frantic shopping’s not my style
So please – just wait a little while
And let some peace and quiet be mine
Before you bring out valentines!

the Prince of Peace
what a glorious title
and you are right
all this hoopla
does not serve Him well

well done

When we act out of Love, as He taught us to do then Christmas can be lived as it is meant to.

Wonderful reflections!

And what's wrong with Valentine's in December? I have a policy in my house no Christmas talk until after my birthday...it's a good thing my birthday's early December and not like my sister who has her birthday on the 22nd December.
Lovely poem lady and it echoes my sentiments exactly.

Dimensions of life, the little pictures that go into making the Big Picture....you find them in the most everyday things, and in the process, you make them -- and our lives too -- more meaningful.

Simple? Yes. Light? Yes. Deeper than it shows? Oh yes.....

Well done, dear lady...well done.

Beloved one, a little Aussie bird told me you were here leaving an absolutely beautiful confection and she was absolutely right. I so agree with you darling one, but if I don't sort out some Christmas shopping before very early I miss the post and that would never ever do. I do so wish I could pop myself inside the package and send me along with the pressie to you, just so I could see your face when you open it. Oh well, I shall have to imagine won't I?

Lovely piece darling heart, absolutely wonderful, always a pleasure to read you.
Love you always
Like you forever

This poem is so true. I don't see you as being Scrudge, but pointing out the crazyness of the holiday season. It's refreshing that some people remember what Christmas intention was. Thank you for the post. I liked your poem.

Ruth, It is cute, enjoyable but oh so sad
for the thought that so many have turned
this day into something other that what it
truthfully is....The birth of Christ, our
Lord and Savior...

It does feel a bit rushed, doesn't it?  You made me smile, but there's a kind of a wry twist to it.  Without children in the house it hardly feels like a holiday here.

You said it, and I am ignoring the whole shopping and madness this year. Just too sad right now. But every year I hate it more, this materialistic paraody.
Also, just the way you wrote this made it a fun thing, and made me smile a second.
