I once met a mysterious girl - A beauty beyond compare; My heart arrested fluttered beat, Her gaze met my stare. She smiled and asked:"May I help you?" - In a voice that soothed the mind; (I dared not truly answer that) "A gift I came to find". Oh, but how to only tell her! In that store of treasures She was the one most precious gem, Beyond all the measures. But my secret wish remained unsaid, Fate did quench my gleam - As she wrapped my gift and then Slipped into a dream. Sometimes at night her face will haunt; Her voice will fill the mind - As if she were calling me, To her seek and find. Oh, you girl of mystery! Where now do you rove? Who now holds and comforts you, Who writes you poems of love? I awake and she still beckons me, As a new dawn nears - But how do you find a diamond lost In a sea of tears? t |
