Right under the sky and the visible stars
a woman steps out on a road to the end
knowing the way but as the wind blows
she turns about face to a bend in the will.

‘tis a gale of a kind that shatters and breaks
and litters the lakes with life-long residue
and she without boat can’t steer a course
from ‘a’ to ‘b’ and the collection of fear.

There in the past as cold as stained glass
fear bolted the door to sharp clarity
and brought in the colours of apathy
like a placebo to forestall the heart.

Geared now to advance and yet she stands
hot in the heat of long lost memories
gone yet clinging, dead yet alive,
and bending strong will into denial.

She stands, she stands, hallelujah, she stands
alive to the feel yet resisting the need
to swim in a lake of all fear!

Honeybunch,

I like this very much.  With all your imagery, you've painted her character well.
Especially like the following, but thought your whole poem was just amazing and one to keep.

"There in the past as cold as stained glass
fear bolted the door to sharp clarity
and brought in the colours of apathy
like a placebo to forestall the heart"

I guess what I like best about the poem is the celebration that she stands.

Thank you all so much for reading and for your comments - much appreciated and, yes, I think a cheer is in order for the one who stands.

Very well done, indeed!

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Thanks Martie, Interloper, and Margherita!  I guess fear is one of the most destructive things in life until overcome, that is.

That's inspiring.  You can put the past behind you, but until you can face it you can't move on.  Well done.
