Two young girls, one brown-haired, one blonde Took great delight in the poppies they found Colorful blossoms stood tall in the sun Annie and Alison were four and out to have fun They didn’t know the flowers were tended with care They only saw wildflowers to put in their hair They only saw flowers to pick and take home They didn’t know that those flowers were lovingly grown The two little girls ran innocently free That is just how it was for my friend, Annie, and me A voice would call out from a house that was near An old lady lived there and her voice rang out clear “Annie and Alison go home; don’t pick those poppies you see. I planted that garden and you two girls just leave them be!” We looked up at the lady and then ran as fast as we could How she could own poppies that grew in the woods? More flowers grew tall in colors so bright The girls returned within the old woman’s sites She could see them slip out of the trees and stay for awhile They never looked up to see her face lit with a smile All they would hear when flowers were held tight in their hands Was the voice calling out and at the door she would stand “Annie and Alison go home; don’t pick those poppies you see. I planted that garden and you two girls just leave them be!” The years have gone by and the girls have long moved away But poppies whisper the words the old woman would say “Annie and Alison go find somewhere else to go play Leave those poppies alone.Go home now I say.” Alison |

Alison, I think we all have a Mrs. Solberg character hidden somewhere in our youthful memories. I enjoyed the read! Thanks for sharing! Omnia vincit amor TP |

Such memeries are so precious,eh?
