Chili It was just her way in simplifying adversities, making less, more money, scarcer than hen’s teeth but knowing everyone would arrive expecting some normal fare no one knew the carburetor had to be replaced or that the old ‘frig had given out to make way for a new old ‘frig why, even the coyote had eaten better, having taken off with the rooster just yesterday, still, they would be coming, expectant, and hungry. It was not in her to turn anyone away so she did what she did it was lemonade time she took inventory of stock at hand, silently counting mouths and for every man multiplied theirs by two. “We’re breaking tradition!” she said, hoping no one really missed the smell of a big bird roasting, nor the niceties that normally accompanied white and dark no red no black no green salad nor baked beans, but beans of a kind, and offered up, as "just chili". One of the men looked around, took in the moment, then went and got the beer. It was a uproarious, glorious feast, and our team won. It was, simply, the best Thanksgiving ever gobbled. |

I wish we celebrated Thanksgiving here in Australia - it would be a nice opportunity to have family and friends around you and to be thankful for who and what they are! I enjoyed your write very much Be well Roniece |

Just goes to show you, it doesn't matter what's on the table.. but rather, who's at the table. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Karilea! ![]() Autumn, the year's last loveliest smile~ |

Bigger is not always better! She gave everyone a KISS by keeping it simple sweetheart! ![]() She gave what she was able to give ~ and a whole lotta love! Nancy summed up this wonderful Thanksgiving tradition with her comment, "it doesn't matter what's on the table.. but rather, who's at the table." Karilea, may your day of giving thanks be a glorious one! Love & Sun Light, Linda ![]() |

I love it! It reminded me so much of one holiday when all I had in the fridge was tortillas, rice and pintos. But the homegrown tomato/cilantro salsa I made?...made it all a gourmet delight! Thank you for sharing this feast of words and memories. |

Care to send that recipe? I am going to attempt to cheer up the cold people here in the snow with that for dinner tonight or tomorrow if it has to wait a day ![]() |

You created such a warm atmosphere with this write, dear Karilea. The greater story, the family, the love, came through beautifully. Love, Margherita |
