white tablecloths
serviettes covering laps
lush pink of flower spread
black and white suited waiter
tiny bow
seats us
discreet click click click of silver
carrying fish
to polite mouths
that discuss atlanta society
politics
and oh my dear
do you know what she said then?

wall of glass
looks at river
bumblebee lights twine tree branches
twinkle reflections live
in dark roil of water
chattahoochee song
calms the digestion of discerning diners

charleston she-crab soup
pink lobster with truffle beurre fondue

you order
124 montrachet marquis de la laguiche j drouhin 1991
sommelier clasps dry hands
looks up
ahhh heaven in a bottle sir
   very fine depth
pours for you
offers mouth of the bottle to my lips
I sip slowly

he has seen me looking
to the low side
of the river
spread with loose papers
life debris
he is well aware
I know about those souls
crouching over fires
folding cold hands against bellies
lips sipping sterno 2006
aqua velva reserve
while

I drink
heaven in a bottle

'wall of glass

Life is full of dichotomy isn't it Lady, and a true lady sees both sides.  Gosh, I'd love to be there sipping with you though.

Siyo Lady it all sound so very beautiful,I have never been to such a place it is I on the other side of river, lol.Once we camp on the Colorado for a few weeks, but we had only to eat what we catch each day. I would like some day perhaps to see,or even go inside such a place!I like this poem very much, makes good pictures to think about.

You carry me with images and beauty in words.  And even in the stark reality of the images -- you don't drop me.

Some see the other side and prefer to close their eyes. Pretending never teaches and never brings about a change. Thank you, I appreciate your empathy. martyjo

This was a little like watching days of our lives. Good stuff.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

She's come a long way, Baby! Lady Kate, you are such a fantabulous writer! You truly are. As I have mentioned to you before, I not only read your poetry, I experience it!

I enjoy these vivid portrayals of memorable moments in time.

Sending you a hug with love,
Linda

thank you for joining me on the river
gentle one

ah sweet Martie
I think life itself
is a dichotomy
and you would enjoy
ray’s on the river

granny it was something
you said about alcoholics
that inspired this write
as a child
I used to go with my aunt
to the opposite side of the river
looking for her husband
among the sterno drinkers
and now...

thank you so much Pressie

I appreciate your replies always
