(This is a very emotional, heartbreaking song I wrote after hearing the tragic news of my cousin Jeremy Shanks dying in combat in Iraq, which broke my heart especially in that he was only 18 when he died, which is barely a kid reaching adulthood, and that he had virtually his whole life ahead, in planning to propose to his girlfriend just two months from now, live out his dreams, and his life ended way, way too soon! I've still been crying, trying to imagine how excited he was about opening his heart to that special someone, and heartbroken imagining how inconsolable his special someone must feel having lost her love, and tried writing this song imagining her love trying to speak to her from the heavens. ) * All-American Nightmare By: Noah Eaton 9/9/06 You were my one and only high school sweetheart, you were my candles gleaming on my sweet sixteenth, you were my lodestar shining down upon me, at every pep rally… I believed with all my heart, that we’d live to our gold anniversary, I believed with all my heart, that I’d live to see us raise a family, waiting for Rest & Recuperation leave, to propose to you on bended knees, with my heart in my hands… No longer are there letters, saying everything will be alright, no longer are there warm embraces, to keep us safe through the night, it’s a crying shame life plays cruel games, Lord knows I never wanted us to play, but in the end our bond will only grow stronger… I believed with all my heart, that we’d pull through any obstacle thrown our way, I believed with all my heart, that nothing in the world could take us away, waiting for Rest & Recuperation leave, to propose to you on bended knees, with my heart in my hands… No longer are there letters, saying everything will be alright, no longer is there reassurance, that can withstand any firefight, it’s a crying shame life plays cruel games, Lord knows I never wanted us to play, but in the end our bond will only grow stronger… Dear God, when she asks the sky, will I have the opportunity to respond, dear God, will she be able to hear, all that I have to say, dear God, if she is inconsolable, is there not a prayer, that can comfort a young lover’s heart… It’s an all-American nightmare… …an all-American nightmare… …an all-American nightmare… …when war breaks a young lover’s heart… No longer are there letters, saying everything will be alright, no longer are there warm embraces, to keep us safe through the night, how can the world tear us apart, far easier than it takes two hearts, to grow stronger... Dear God, when she asks the sky, will I have the opportunity to respond, dear God, will she be able to hear, all that I have to say, dear God, if she is inconsolable, is there not a prayer, that can comfort a young lover’s heart… It’s an all-American nightmare… …an all-American nightmare… …an all-American nightmare… …when war breaks a young lover’s heart... . . . . . . Oh Noah, I am so very sorry for your loss. How minimal those words are, yet they are the only ones I have. I understand your grief and confusion. And trhough it all, you wrote a tribute. You are special beyond words. Sandra |

I just read in Announcements of Jeremy's tragic death over in Iraq. This soulful song will certainly bring his fiance's eyes and heart to tears ~ as well as for the rest of his family and friends. Sad. So terribly, terribly sad. Loving Eternal Light, Linda |

Noah, you certainly have a wonderful way of making something beautiful out of a horrible situation. You've shown your cousin's heart in this writing and soothed his sweethearts ache. Thank you so much for sharing this loving song you've written. God bless, Rae |

Oh, Noah, this does tear me apart but not nearly like the affect I am sure you and your family are feeling. So very sad. Know that you and all will be in my prayers for comfort and peace. *hugs*...jo |
