passing gas stations
while on a wednesday empty
just for the walk back thrill
some dark later thirty

to see if a nun will stop
on her way home from working
her nails on the brail
of happy factory martinis

to give a leisurely ride hi
to a stranger with signs
that have always been warnings
in neon and debonair velveteen

or will she break down too
before the beverly town glows
and ask me for help pushing
her plastic up the hillside

to a marriot with chrome handles
