Marriage after many years
is nothing more than coffee
with all the caffeine leached out...
It holds an echo of comfort
but the stimulation is gone.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

"an echo of comfort",  good choice of words to describe boredom, kind of sad.  I always disliked the word content too, because it meant a sort of compliance and something needed to be done to shake things up again. Old slippers are comfortable but get kind of shaby looking. Best to you, I enjoyed this piece a lot.  martyjo

I never cared for the taste of coffee, but I love the smell of fresh-brewed.  We could work that into the metaphor pretty easy, couldn't we?  I'd come off as a loose woman, but hey, you and me together make ...well, we make two loose women, don't we?

So Kethry, are you saying you don't like Decaf?

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

late arrival. Thank you for your comments. I also dislike content for the same reasons.

passing shadows. Thanks for the comment and the sigh. Does that mean you agree with me?

interloper. Thanks, it's not such a negative message if you look between the lines. At least it's not as negative as some of my work.

Marge, thank you for stopping by...maybe not a drip but even good percolation loses flavour when...well you know when.

Nightshade, Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed. It's not poetry as such but even my muse needs a coffee break.

Sewasham. Thanks, sugar and cream...I know, you want me to be bored and FAT!

Nan,
I like fresh grounds too but they usually lead to divorce. *G Thank you I'm glad to know we can be loose together.

Seymour,
thank you. The answer is 'as you like it'.

Larry. Thank you. I'm not saying I dislike decaf, it's just that it's so...good for you.

Beloved one, an incredible piece darling one, but I do hope your poem isn’t a true foretelling of my future. Surely this won’t apply to me, will it? After all the trouble and expense we’ve just been through, it had better last a hundred lifetimes, and still be fresh and new.

You just know I love your writing don’t you?
Love you always
like you forever

very nice 'write'....
but as an unabashedly 'incurable romantic' I must 'take issure' with the message! (sorry!)

aziza, thank you that sounds like good advice...now if only I could dance...and I wasn't an alcoholic. :rainbow

Roneice, Thanks I assume you mean you can't relate to the message...well I'm glad about that.

Mushy, your marriage will always be the finest of everything. When two hearts join there can be no forseeing of days grown cold.

Keth, I'm sure you've heard the old adage...

not so hot once you get used
to it."  LOL...

You did well here; brevity,
concise thought,
deep topic.
