![]() My precious stuffed toy is about sixty years old And the story of her life I will slowly unfold I was born at the end of that World War Two At candle's light, unbelievable but true Food was scarce, we got bread once a week Hunger prevailed, our health was quite weak My mother had traded her warm winter coat For potatoes from people who lived on a boat They wanted to get her wedding ring as well It wouldn't come off and my Mom wished them hell I have two sisters, who are older than me Growing up in a time where nobody was free Playing outside was quite dangerous you know Bombs hitting the area in a constant flow There was no money to be spend on a toy But my Mom was creative so we could enjoy The things she made out of old rags of cotton And for a few moments the War was forgotten We moved after War to a different city And lived in a house made of wood, very pretty We moved again when I was twelve years old To a very old house, where treasures were hold My Mom had made me a doll that was stuffed No hands or feet and her belly looked puffed But her eyes were nice and her mouth was smiling To her trust and faith I was always relying But through the years when I was growing I took her lesser where I was going And one day I just completely forgot About this doll that in War time I got And then, it must've been ten years ago My Mom moved to an elderly home you know My sisters and me had to clean up the house Where she had lived with us and her spouse It was then that I stumbled upon my old doll My Mom always kept it in good order and all Along with the bears of a later date And I only could think it must've been fate I took them home and will never again part From the toys of my youth, the joys of my heart They're sitting together and watch me grow old The story of my stuffed toy has now been unfold ~~~*~~~ Like scattered leaves...my words will flow [This message has been edited by Titia Geertman (10-30-2006 07:28 PM).] |

Oh, Titia, what a precious story and photo. I still have my Raggety Ann doll from when I was little. I never will part from her. Thankyou for this. hugs, Chris "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." - Oscar Wilde |
