Parkers Mill Bridge I have many fond memories of Parkers Mill Bridge That crosses the water to Honey Creek ridge I spent many days there when I was a kid And you wouldn’t believe all the things that I did My brothers and I always went there to swim We’d meet up with friends to play there with them At times I would go there alone just to fish To catch ole man whiskers was my childhood wish He was a fifty pound catfish so everyone said And he lived in a hole in the deep river bed I never once caught him but not without trying He got off my line once and I ran home crying Further down from the bridge is a tall rocky ledge And if you were careful you could climb to the edge And watch as the waters of clear Honey Creek Tumbled over the top of the high rocky peak Where the water went over these high rocky walls Is a place that the local folks called Turner Falls At the base of the falls was a crystal clear pool A place we would go to play hooky from school At a spot near the bridge is where I first got kissed And it was an experience I would never have missed She was my childhood sweetheart that I did adore And out of respect I won't say anymore The old Parkers Mill Bridge is still standing today Though most traffic goes down a newer highway Honey Creek still tumbles over high rocky walls And tourists enjoy what is still Turner Falls My family enjoys camping there in the park And sometimes at evening when it’s getting dark I’ll climb to the top of that high rocky ridge And gaze towards the sunset at Parkers Mill Bridge |
